Great food, amazing drinks and good friends on a midweek… Why not? That’s exactly what happened when I, together with some of my food buddies, headed to The Bowery NYC Comfort Food at BGC, a New York inspired restaurant.
This dimly lit resto gives off a really relaxing vibe – the kind you would want after a long and tiring day.
At night, The Bowery NYC Comfort Food transforms into a bar. It has an open area that overlooks the street – a perfect spot for smokers after 10PM.
Right after we settled in at The Bowery NYC Comfort Food, we immediately decided to give their drinks a try! I kicked off the evening with a glass of “SSS” mocktail before the pigging out started. You read that right, it’s a mocktail! I was currently taking antibiotics during our visit. Pathetic, right? Haha! But the actual “SSS” or Sixth Street Special (Php280.00) has Turmeric, Fresh Citrus, Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Star Anise and Sugar+Salt rim. So much fun licking the sugar+salt!
While enjoying our drinks, little by little they started to roll-out some of The Bowery NYC Comfort Food’s bestsellers by Chef Cuit Kaufman (of LES Bagels, Borough and Nolita). It’s the kind of comfort food that you would normally see or eat in NYC.
Amazing dishes at The Bowery NYC Comfort Food
Lobster Shrimp Truffle Mac and Cheese (Php1,300.00)
The smell of the truffle oil alone is divine! I found myself just keeping quiet whenever I took a bite, savoring every morsel. You might find this The Bowery NYC Comfort Food specialty a tad pricey but when you eat it you’ll immediately know why. This dish has creme Fraiche, cream cheese, garlic, mozzarella, cracked black pepper and generous amounts of lobster and shrimp. Rich, creamy and cheesy! This can be shared by 2 persons.
Add smoked bacon for Php80.00
Steamed Mussels (Php470.00)
This was a revelation! The secret is in the Thai spiced beer broth which gives this dish its standout quality. The light zing will stimulate your appetite. No frills, no complicated ingredients. Just an honest to goodness delicious dish. See the grilled sourdough bread right there? Dunk it in the broth. You’ll love it! A must try when you visit The Bowery NYC Comfort Food.
Turkey Meatloaf (Php620.00)
A simple dish with a flavor that’s so spot on! The mashed potatoes, red wine gravy, braised green beans and carrots that were served with it were the perfect accompaniment. Its festive colors remind me of the holidays, too. It’s the kind of dish that I would probably serve on Christmas eve.
Roasted Rosemary Chicken (Php480.00)
I haven’t eaten polenta in a long while! The red wine steeped cherries that were served with the parmesan polenta were a match made in kitchen heaven! The Roasted Rosemary Chicken, on the other hand, was seasoned and cooked all the way through.
And while we were enjoying every dish, a sexy MargaRiri (Php300.00) was brought in!
Fresh citrus margarita, apple vinegar, salt sugar and red wine floater.
That’s not all. The Bowery NYC Comfort Food also serves mean Death by Chocolate Cake (Php360.00)
This cake is worth breaking your diet for! 7 layers of distinct chocolate components: chocolate ganache, dark chocolate mousse, mocha meringue, chocolate truffle cake, chocolate buttercream, fudge crumble and a fudge brownie at the bottom served with chocolate crème anglaise and cocoa nibs. This is definitely every chocolate lovers dream cake!
Grandma’s Pear Pie (Php650.00)
This pear pie is so comforting, it will remind you of home cooked goodness! The wonderful crisped-outer edges of this pie offers a beautiful crunch that complements the vanilla bean ice cream and hot Toddy caramel sauce that is poured on top. This specialty is served in a skillet to keep it warm and giving it that old school feel.
Though some may find The Bowery NYC Comfort Food quite pricey, the quality, flavor and servings more than justifies it. It’s a great place where one can kick back and comfortably lounge with a few brewskies or just catch up with family or friends whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Either way, The Bowery NYC Comfort Food is a really great place to hang out at.
