I have been to Chihuahua – Makati Avenue several times already and all I order is their Chicken Nachos
I am a fan of Mexican food! I even make Burritos in whole wheat pita bread and brown rice at home for my very health-conscious husband. I love Salsa. I love Quesadillas and Enchiladas.
Come 2014 the whole menu is going to change according to Ines. They’ll have more (and better) variations. A smaller version of their burrito will be served for people on the go, making it easy and fast to eat. Like their Mini-Me Burrito (Php225.00). Instead of the normal 12-incher, they use 10-inch tortilla.
I started the night with a glass of Margarita (Php195.00)!
This is not your usual Mexican cocktail. Instead of just the usual “salt” on the rim of the glass kind, Chihuahua uses sea salt and added some Cayenne Pepper and Paprika to spice it up a bit! Tasty with a kick! A very sexy drink which can be enjoyed by the beach while having a tan!
We also tried their Aguas Frescas (Php140.00/500ml glass or Php180.00/750ml bottle).
Aguas Frescas is a non-alcoholic drink that comes in 3 flavors: Pear, Watermelon and Melon. A light and refreshing drink on a hot day! This is one of the owners, Ines, holding a bottle of Aguas Frescas. Isn’t she lovely? And the watermelon Aguas Frescas matches her top, too!
After a few drinks, they slowly served us with some of ther famous and delicious offerings.
This Chips & Queso “Special” (Php195.00) is what I partnered with my Margarita. It is exactly what the name of the appetizer implies. Chips and cheese! Delicious.
The dip excited my palate because of the great mixture of spices! The Chili con Queso is made of ground beef, jalapeños, tomatoes, bell peppers and gooey melted cheese!
Chicken Nachos (Php345.00)
Nachos, beans, cheese, bell peppers, tomato, onions, cheddar cheese sauce, chili, sour cream and marinated grilled chicken breast that I love eating so much! It’s a meal in itself!
Carnitas Quesadilla (Php485.00)
Slow cooked pulled carnitas (pork) with red onions, cilantro and 3 kinds of cheese: monterey jack, cheddar and their house tangy cheese. Served with pico de gallo, chipotle salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. But the guacamole is only served when avocados are in season. The toasted flour tortillas are cut into 6 slices that can be shared by 2 persons. But if you have a bigger appetite, you might want to have this all to yourself! Haha!
Hey vegetarians! They have Vegetarian Quesadilla (Php385.00) for you guys! It’s made of Zucchini, cheese, tomato and onions. It has a crepe-ish texture that’s easy and light to eat.
Two-Bean Burrito (Php135.00)
It won’t be a Burrito without the beans. This variant is packed with smokey refried beans, black beans, queso, chipotle salsa, red onions and of course Mexican rice wrapped in a 10″ tortilla. This delicious item can actually be enjoyed on its own. Delicioso!
Banana Nutella Quesadilla (Php195.00 (small) / Php345.00 (large)
Vanilla ice cream, fresh bananas, cinnamon, generous amount of shaved almonds, cajeta or mexican caramel, nuts, Nutella + Jiffy peanut butter. An amazing dessert!
Chuy’s Chipotle Salsa – Php250
Qrazy Queso – Php250
Chihua-Chips – Php250
Chihuahua sticks to the true flavors of Mexico. They serve it exactly the way it’s supposed to be. The flavors are big and bold with American sized servings. Even the interiors are very Mexican with a fefreshing splash of colors. You can even use their ponchos, sombreros and maracas for added character and say Olé!
But what really stood out and got my attention was their hot sauce collection. I think this is the only resto in the metro that has this!
This “Hot Sauce Library” carries different kinds of hot sauce from the owners’ trips abroad. Just like these 2 badass hot sauces!
So, now that the holiday season is over, drop by Chihuahua to unwind. It’s a much needed break after the hustle and bustle of the recent Christmas rush.
