You might wonder why this place is called, “Kettle”? I actually asked the owner about that. The answer was simple… because “Kettle” reminds you of your kitchen. Of comfort food. And your home. It actually makes sense after being here because Kettle’s dishes are the kind which we love eating back in the day. The kind of food we look forward to eating on a family Sunday lunch cooked by your beloved grandmother but served with more pizzaz.
Kettle is located at the new East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza Mall where a series of new restaurants in different concepts opened.
These glass walls adorned with Christmas decors looked clean, transparent and very welcoming.
Let’s start with this Clam Chowder (Php229.00).
Kettle did not scrimp on the ingredients! The clams tasted fresh and the vegetables were cut-up right. Served on a sourdough bread bowl. Right consistency, tasty and hearty. Don’t forget the freshly ground blackpepper!
While I was enjoying my soup, I reached for some of these Pork & Potato Strips (Php339.00).
Crunchy pork belly and fresh potato strips, fried herbs, red pepper aioli with a hint of truffle oil. Fried crisp to perfection and oh so addicting! Use your fingers to really enjoy this appetizer. Even if you take it home and eat it the next day, it’s still crispy!
Want some Baked Brie (Php389.00) for appetizer?
This beautiful appetizer tastes as good as it looks! I love Brie and I love pairing it with grapes. The puff pastry was flaky, the Forest Berries Jam gave it a little sweetness with a hint of acid from the Balsamic syrup. Delicious! I can have this for dessert instead!
Mac and Four-Cheese (Php269.00) to bring back memories of your childhood!
Who can resist mac and cheese? Back in the day, we would just use 1 kind of cheese. But Kettle used 4! That means four times the fun! Fontina, Cheddar, Parmesan and Gruyere! The pungent, nutty, sharp, creamy elements go well altogether.
Their Steak & Marrow (Php2,589.00) is the bomb!
450 grams USDA Prime Aged Rib Eye Steak and Herbed Crusted Bone Marrow. Scoop some marrow. Slice some steak. Place the marrow on top of the steak. Eat. Repeat! The steak was seasoned with salt and pepper for you to taste it’s natural flavor. While the marrow tasted buttery and creamy. Just don’t eat too much y’know… Both worked lovely together. The marrow gives the entire dish a different kind of character!
But this Buttermilk Fried Chicken (Php519.00) is also a must try!
Marinated for 24 hours using their own buttermilk recipe with paprika and different spices. Drizzle it with Cajun Honey then smother with Country Gravy. You’ve got a delicious sweet and salty combo right there! I partnered it with Pork & Potato Strips instead of the cornbread. Wow! Flavor warfare happening in my mouth!
Though the Honey Glazed Cornbread Muffins (Php29.00) should be partnered with the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, I opted to eat it separately.
I am a sucker for corn muffins and this cornbread muffin did not disappoint!
I love the smell of freshly baked bread. Always. I love eating it while it’s warm. I enjoy getting a pinch or munch on it even if I’m eating a dish that does not go well together. Cornbread or corn muffins or corn loaf… It doesn’t matter. It’s one of my comfort food.
Caramel Cake (Php189.00)
It tasted nothing like the other caramel cakes I’ve tasted before. Made by Chef Chiloy’s mother by heart. The caramel tasted like melted Kraft caramel smothered on top of a chiffon cake! It is rich, velvety, not overwhelmingly sweet and really delicious! I tell you, Kettle’s Caramel Cake will make Estrel’s Caramel Cake so yesterday!
Checkered Cake (Php209.00)
Look at how beautifully assembled this cake is! According to Chef Chiloy, her mom bakes and painstakingly assembles it! For its price, you are paying for really good stuff so don’t think twice!
The prizes may shock you especially the ones reaching 4-digits! But each dish is good for sharing. When the dish is divided amongst you and your friends/family, you’ll be surprised to see that it actually comes out cheaper than dining in other restaurants of similar calibre. You get good tasting quality food!
