It’s Valentine’s in just a few days. I can actually feel the love and romance everywhere. Couples are already looking for restaurants to dine in, planning to watch a movie or even checking out hotels for a romantic staycation.
I remember a few years ago when my husband and I decided to have a breakfast Valentine’s date just to celebrate the occasion differently. It was delightfully unique. We also had a separate Valentine’s dinner at home with our kids. Our eldest kid was the one who prepared dinner and it turned out to be one of the sweetest for me.
This year, my husband and I decided to Dine Under The Stars at The Terrace of Maxim’s Hotel in Resorts World Manila for a pre-valentine dinner. I tell you, nothing spells romance quite like an al fresco candlelit dinner.
But it wasn’t just any candlelit dinner. Ours was a starlit fine-dining dinner with a personal wait staff standing nearby the entire time.
That night made us feel like my husband and I were dating like boyfriend and girlfriend again…
The food selection was well thought out, matching the exclusive and enchanting Dine Under The Stars dinner experience.
You’ve got a 4-course meal, selection of wine pairings, live acoustic band, floral arrangements and a languorous lighting by the poolside of The Terrace of Maxim’s Hotel.
Our starter was orange-scented goat cheese salad with braised red beets, avocado and arugula.
This is then followed by a creamy lobster bisque with heart shaped carrot pearls and heart shaped croutons.
For mains, you have 3 selections to choose from: Boneless beef short ribs, Crispy pan-seared snapper fillet or chicken Kiev. My husband opted for beef while I fancied the snapper.
The Boneless Beef Short Ribs were braised in red wine sauce and served with cheddar cheese polenta, roasted cippolini onions and chestnuts. It was flavorful and tender and the polenta was creamy dreamy!
In betweens, we were served different kinds of wine. One of which was the Raffa Sparkling Vino Blanco.
Fruity and light with a hint of sweetness which paired beautifully with my entree.
The Crispy Pan-Seared Snapper Fillet was basted with sweet and sour tamarind glaze on Nicoise vegetables and rosemary butter sauce. The tamarind glaze was all over the skin yet still retaining the crispness of the skin. While the salad that came with it complemented the tamarind glaze by tempering the sourness.
For our dessert, we were served a heart shaped Cheesecake St. Valentine each. The cake boasts of lemon and berry marmalade and citrus tuile.
The cheesecake is probably one of the most delicious and well presented desserts I’ve had for quite some time. What a perfectly sweet ending.
Guests who want to Dine Under The Stars at The Terrace can choose between a table for two by the poolside where the waters reflect the twinkling stars, or the cabana for a more intimate and private dinner.
