It was years ago when I first heard of Denny’s from my relatives living in the USA. Fast forward to today’s generation, I became reintroduced to Denny’s again via the TV series that I once got really hooked on — “Breaking Bad”. In that particular (and very notable scene), Walter White (the main character) spent his birthday alone at Denny’s and ordered a Grand Slam breakfast. Then, he broke the bacon pieces and assembled it to form the number of his age. Remember?
Also, just last year, my husband went to Guam for the Ko’Ko Road Race Marathon and he was able to dine at Denny’s. Oh! How envious I was! Little did I know that Denny’s would be opening a branch in Manila under The Bistro Group.
A few days before its actual opening, we got an invitation to try out (and get first dibs at) Denny’s – BGC, but due to unavoidable circumstances, we weren’t able to go. Sadly, we even had to turn down a second invitation –what a bummer! But finally, thanks to my son’s 19th birthday, we were able to celebrate this special occasion at Denny’s!
Even if the place was packed on a holiday, we were able to get a spot.
We already had a few dishes in mind as recommended by our good friend Dona of The Bistro Group. But when we saw the menu, we just had to peruse it a little more. Good thing our server, Charm, was really a charm-er! She patiently waited for our orders and was very efficient, all smiles and snappy.
Ok, enough with the chit-chat. It’s time to eat!
Denny’s sure knows how to make a tummy happy
Let’s start with some Mozzarella Cheese Sticks (Php295.00).
This Mozzarella cheese stick actually looks like a hash brown. It’s deep fried to a golden brown and served with marinara sauce. Our family loves this especially our daughter, Ella, who is a cheese lover!
For my recommendation, order The Original Grand Slam (Php375.00). This was the dish that I was talking about earlier. 🙂
You’ve got 2 buttermilk pancakes, 2 bacon strips, two sausages and two eggs. This is truly a breakfast of champions and the perfect meal for me! You may also replace your pancakes with french toast and you can have your eggs served either scrambled or sunny side-up. Wondering what perfect drink to partner this specialty with? Denny’s Hot Chocolate!
Hot Chocolate (Php95.00)
A cup of silky hot chocolate with cold whipped cream will definitely complete your breakfast experience at Denny’s. Scratch breakfast… any given time I mean!
Care to try the Grand Slamwich (Php395.00)?
This is one helluva sandwich, I mean, slamwich! This bestseller is loaded with 2 scrambled eggs that envelopes the crumbled sausage, bacon, shaved ham and American cheese served on grilled potato bread with a maple spice spread. The sweet-salty-spicy combo is an absolute win. Wow! All of my husband’s favorite breakfast delights in one delicious sandwich!
How about some Moons Over My Hammy (Php355.00)?
Think of Moons Over My Hammy as your classic ham and scrambled egg sandwich — but on steroids. There’s Swiss and American cheeses, sandwiched in grilled sourdough. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and moist. My dad in law gave this a two-thumbs up!
For the birthday boy… Spicy Sriracha Burger (Php495.00).
This burger was delightfully spicy. But don’t let the word “spicy” scare you away. This hand-pressed beef patty is incredibly juicy without being too fatty. This delicious creation is loaded with cheddar cheese, creamy sriracha sauce, slices of pickled jalapeños, fresh lettuce, tomato, red onions and… BACON! My birthday boy had the time of his life enjoying this specialty! If you find it a tad spicy to your liking, I suggest you order a glass of Peanut Butter Milkshake to counter the heat.
But if you want a simple burger, Denny’s Cheeseburger (Php475.00) won’t disappoint!
My daughter, on the other hand, likes her burger simple yet filling, so she opted for this one. The juicy patty with the classic accompaniments of lettuce, red onion, tomato and pickles satisfied her hungry tummy. If you want a double patty, go ahead, Denny’s will oblige (+Php195)!
If you aren’t sure if you want a burger or a slamwich, I suggest you try out this Pot Roast Melt Sandwich (Php525.00).
This slow-cooked pot roast with 2 slices of American cheese, caramelized onions and mushrooms sandwiched on 7-grain bread will be able to easily provide all the protein you need. Good stuff!
Denny’s skillet offerings caught my attention so I decided to order this Sausage and Pepper Skillet (Php395.00).
A combination of Beddar with cheese sausage and English bangers mixed with fire roasted bell peppers to give you a nice smokey flavored dish smothered in brown gravy. You may partner this with their soup of the day, pancakes, rice or toast. Or you can enjoy it alone as is.
For their milkshakes, here are our picks:
Peanut Butter Milkshake
Denny’s milkshakes are priced at Php205.00 each. They are made with premium ice cream and topped with whipped cream giving you that thick and creamy texture in every sip.
Apple Ginger (Php135.00)
Surprisingly, this drink was absolutely delicious! It was soothing and refreshing.
Denny’s is a great place to enjoy great food whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply making a casual visit.
Note though that they are just barely a month old with people coming in droves, so expect a queue when you drop by. Props to Denny’s awesome management for keeping with the demand.
Look! I tried to replicate the Breaking Bad scene for my son’s birthday — just like Walter White did! Hahaha!
Happy birthday to our son, Ralph!
To southerners, great news! Denny’s is opening their second branch at Vista Mall, Sta. Rosa Laguna. Watch out for it!
