My love for cooking started when I was very young… back when my grandmother would always ask me and my cousin to help out in the kitchen. Growing up and being raised by my grandparents meant doing things the old school way. I didn’t have any formal culinary training. I just developed a deep love of being in the kitchen as I grew older. I also enjoyed going to the wet market, doing the inventory in our pantry and eventually cooking for family and friends.
I could probably liken myself to Nigella Lawson in the sense that we both enjoy discovering (and rediscovering) wonderful food, whether old or new, plus we write about it every chance we get. It is also for this reason that I truly look up to her.
So, when I got an invitation from Contadina to learn more about their products and a chance to see Nigella Lawson in the flesh, I immediately blocked it off of my calendar! No way was I going to let an opportunity like this pass!

Contadina and Nigella Lawson – A perfect match
Contadina which is Italian for “woman of the fields” – someone who is particular and discriminating about the quality of ingredients she uses for the home-cooked meals she lovingly prepares. Nigella Lawson reflects this very ideal through her food philosophy.
Nigella, who is actually not a chef, learned her ways in the kitchen when she worked as a chambermaid in Florence. She would watch a certain lady named Nonna whip up a meal in the kitchen of the pensione. And Italy, being abundant of fresh and quality produce, helped shaped and nurtured her love for food.
During the Contadina event, a cook-off was held amongst celebrity guests, Chef JP Anglo, Stephanie Zubiri-Crespi and Daphne Oseña-Paez. Other guests were also given the chance to be part of the cook-off as each one of us drew lots to determine which team we would be in. I ended up with Team Daphne while my husband joined Team Stephanie.
While everyone was busy in the kitchen, Nigella with host Sam Oh did the rounds to interview the contenders. When Nigella approached Daphne for a little chit-chat while cooking, I kinda wished I was in Daphne’s shoes so I could also spend time talking to her.

Nigella Lawson, being a food writer that has sold over 10 million copies of her cookbooks worldwide, a cook and a host of her own cooking show is one of the few people I watch and admire when it comes to cooking. Give me any ingredient and I will definitely do my best to whip up something comforting and delicious.
