Creamy Chicken Adobo – A fun Nestle Cream – Create with Cream event

How many variations of Adobo can you actually do? You can use chicken, pork or even seafood. Adobo can be cooked with the usual marinade of vinegar & soy sauce, or with just plain vinegar (what they call Adobong Puti), or be creative and mix coconut with it. But did you know that you can also cook Adobo with cream? Yes! In fact, I’ve tried cooking this version several times already and for those who haven’t tried it yet, I can tell you it’s very good! The cream tempers the sourness from the vinegar and it gives the sauce a nice thick consistency.

Just recently I was invited together with my family to attend a cooking event called Nestle Cream – CREATE WITH CREAM (#CreateWithCream) which was held at the Jade Pavilion of Blue Leaf in BGC. It was quite exciting for me since I’ve been a long-time Nestle Cream user. It feels great to be invited to events by brands that you actually use.

Upon entering the venue, the kitchen counters immediately caught my eye. I knew there was going to be a cooking demo but seeing 3 more kitchen counters in front kind of baffled me. I kinda knew right away that apart from the guest chef who will be doing a demo, other individuals were going to be brought up front to participate. But who? Guests, perhaps? I’ll let you in on a little secret… Whenever I see a kitchen set-up in a food event, I always play with my imagination! I’d normally picture myself behind the kitchen counter, ready to compete! I guess it’s the cook in me plus my natural competitiveness. Hahaha!

He was here to demonstrate how to cook Creamy Chicken Adobo using Nestle Cream. As earlier mentioned, I’ve made this version already but I am still excited to watch, listen and learn from Chef Rob and taste his own version of it.

After Chef Rob completed his version of the Creamy Chicken Adobo, it was the audience’s turn to take a crack at it. But instead of hand picking the participants, they asked for volunteers. My family and good friends whom I shared a table with egged me on to volunteer. Little did they know that I wasn’t planning on letting this opportunity pass… after all, this was actually what I was looking forward to. Hahaha!

And so the cooking contest begins!

I was partnered with Jill of The Food Scout who also happens to be a good friend. We positioned ourselves at the 1st counter. Good thing we listened to Chef Rob when he was cooking, otherwise, we probably would’ve ended up making our own version. LOL!

Everything was set and prepared already. All we had to do is cook. You might want to cook along as you read this so allow me to list the ingredients you’ll also need to create your own Creamy Chicken Adobo.


  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces, approximately 1 kg.
  • 1/3 cup vinegar
  • ¼ cup MAGGI® Soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 sachet 8g MAGGI MAGIC SARAP®
  • ¼ cup crushed garlic
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6-8 peppercorns
  • ½ cup oil


In a pot, boil chicken in vinegar, soy sauce, water, MAGGI MAGIC SARAP, garlic, bay leaves, and peppercorns. Cook uncovered until boiling. Lower heat and simmer while covered until chicken is tender or simmer for 10 minutes. Strain sauce and reserve.

Don’t forget to taste!

While we were cooking, Chef Rob surprised us by asking “You think your group will win?” And we conceitedly answered a giggling “YES”!

In a large pan, heat oil. Pan-fry the chicken until golden brown. Remove excess oil.

Jill and I removed all the fried chicken, drained the pieces in paper towels and scooped the toasted garlic and set it aside.

Pour in the reserved sauce in the pan and simmer until sauce is almost dry then pour in NESTLÉ All Purpose Cream and whisk until the sauce and cream has been mixed.

Add in the fried chicken and coat it well with the sauce.

Transfer to a serving bowl, pour the sauce, top with toasted garlic, bay leaf and serve hot.

Here comes the moment of truth — the tasting part! According to Chef Rob, our version of Creamy Chicken Adobo has the height they were looking for. According to him also, it had a more pronounced Adobo flavor. But he gave all 3 teams different positive impressions.

It has been my lifelong passion to cook. Ever since I learned how to cook back when I was 10 years old, I never stopped cooking for my family and friends. It’s fun being in the kitchen, whipping up old and new dishes alike.
