Whenever we eat in a Japanese restaurant, my husband would normally order Ebi Tempura, Salmon Sashimi and Chicken Karaage. I don’t know what he tastes in Chicken Karaage that makes him like it so much because in all honestly, I don’t find anything special with this particular dish. The coating is usually too thick, frustratingly tough, oily and sometimes disappointingly bland unless you dip it in its sauce. Could it be that we have just been unlucky with the choices of restaurants that we’ve ordered Chicken Karaage from? Perhaps.
So when we got an invitation to try Chibi’s Karaage, I was reluctant at first. I felt the need to google Chibi’s to read raves and rants (if there were any) before accepting the invite.
To make the long story short, I found myself at Chibi’s Karaage in SM Light Mall one rainy afternoon with my family. A few minutes after we arrived, we met the young and very gracious owner — Dempsey Uy — who immediately started entertaining us while bringing out his bestseller – Chicken Karaage.
While he was busily preparing our food, I took the opportunity to shoot a few snaps of the place.
Chibi’s Karaage can easily be found at the Ground Floor of SM Light Mall at Madison St. in Mandaluyong which is just about a 15-20 minute drive from my place.
The place is simple and clean.
I also perused the menu and I was surprised to see that their food is reasonably priced. And now that I have tried Chibi’s Karaage, I can certainly say that their food is way better than eating at some fast food joint for (almost) the same amount.
So, allow me to show you some of Chibi’s Karaage’s delicious specialties which we have tried and got us hooked enough to be craving for every now and then.
Chibi’s Karaage has 2 sizes for you to choose from: Regular which is priced at Php90.00 and Large at Php120.00
Here is how to order Chibi’s Karaage:
Whatever sauce you fancy for your Chibi’s Karaage will work well! In my honest opinion, the Chicken Karaage tastes great even without it. The sauces are just a bonus.
Chibi’s Chicken Karaage is fried to perfection using a very light batter, making it crispy, tasty and flavorful. Something you will find really addicting! I can say that this is the best Chicken Karaage I have tried so far! Try it for yourself and you will most likely agree with me.
And while you’re at it, why not try Chibi’s Karaage’s other specialties like their: Buta no Kakuni Bento (Php175.00)
The Kakuni Bento has been simmered for 8 hours to give this dish awesome flavor. Imagine, for a fast food joint, they go the extra mile to provide you with quality offerings that don’t taste anything close to fast food at all.
