Ever since I hit my 30th year, I only celebrate my birthdays with family. As I grow older, I realized it’s not the number of friends or invitees that matter anymore, it’s whom I celebrate my birthday with. It’s not that my friends and relatives don’t matter anymore. But, as my age slowly adds up, I just want it to be as intimate as possible. How intimate you may ask? By having a simple lunch or dinner out with my family or an intimate staycation either in or out of the metro. My birthday now means more time to bond, spend and celebrate with #TheDreys. My kids are growing up so fast and I just want to have quality time with them as much as possible.
So for this year’s birthday, we had a beautiful staycation at EDSA Shangri-La in Mandaluyong.
This 5-Star luxury hotel is located in the heart of Ortigas Center’s business and shopping areas. The accessibility of this establishment and the convenience of being close to prime malls and other establishments are what guests look for the most.
From alighting our car to entering the lobby to checking-in… Everything was a breeze.
And paperless, too!
Apart from all these, I especially like how EDSA Shangri-La is just a stone’s throw away from my place. But even if it is practically my next-door neighbor, it doesn’t feel like it. EDSA Shangri-La’s nice lush tropical gardens provide that deluxe resort feel which seemingly takes me to paradise in an instant. A piece of oasis in the city.
EDSA Shangri-La also has a mini waterpark which your little ones will surely enjoy! Even the young once, too!
For your dining experience, EDSA Shangri-La boasts of 6 superb restaurants, making it quite unnecessary for guests to leave the hotel anymore.
If you’re looking for Italian cuisine, there’s Paparazzi. Craving for some sushi, sashimi, traditional or contemporary dishes, go to Senju. How about authentic Chinese cuisine? Head over to Summer Palace. But if you want to have a little bit of everything in a casual and relaxed setting, then, you will surely enjoy Heat’s offerings. But for light treats, cocktails, coffee or tea, The Lobby Lounge and The Bakeshop has all that and more.
On top of all these indulgences, I still haven’t shown you the room where our family stayed at.
EDSA Shangri-La – TOWER WING DELUXE ROOM
This beautiful room provided much needed comfort and relaxation during our staycation. The blue and brown palettes give off a somewhat calming effect which made me doze off instantly after settling in.
This type of room has 2 beds fit for a small family. Since we are a family of 4 with 2 teens, it was impossible for all of us to fit in. So, we requested for a roll-away bed that was immediately set-up for my boy by the window.
I was fondly bribing my kid the whole afternoon because I wanted to sleep on the roll-away bed. I wanted to stay beside the window so when I wake up I could see the view of the garden and the pool right away! But my son won’t budge. Hmp!
The room is equipped with a flat screen tv and a work desk that is positioned by the window.
For workaholics (like me haha!), this area will still allow you to stay busy while offering a refreshing view of the garden when you feel tired from writing or working.
The bathroom is clean and spacious, too!
A perfect room for business and pleasure alike. By the way, all Tower Wing Rooms are non-smoking rooms. If you need a smoking room, request for a room located on the Garden Wing.
Since it was my birthday staycation, the EDSA Shangri-La Team headed by the sweet Aimee Lagman surprised me with this. So sweet!
The next day, we were treated to a relaxing couple spa treatment at Chi Spa located at the hotel’s Garden Wing.
Entering the spa felt like being transported to Bali!
This “spa within a spa” is your private sanctuary of calm, personal space and timelessness.
Our own private space.
The door on the right is the sauna, door on the left is the shower and the middle door leads to the treatment room.
Both of us requested for the “traditional Hilot” massage and in no time the skilled therapists started rejuvenating our tired bodies!
Slots at Chi Spa are usually filled-up easily (and quickly) so it is advised to book ahead of time.
‘Twas a relaxing massage to cap off our EDSA Shangri-La staycation.

It has been years since my last stay at EDSA Shangri-La but I tell you, the service is still wonderful – a testament to how long they’ve been at the top of their game! From the valet, bellhop, front office, housekeeping up to the higher management – just impeccable and in true EDSA Shangri-La fashion.
#TheDreys created yet another memorable moment!
EDSA Shangri-La is truly your oasis in the city!
