The long wait is finally over! The Halal Guys is opening their first international branch this October 13, 2015 at the 5L Mega Food Hall of SM Megamall! I no longer need to travel to the Big Apple just to have my fill of their famous Gyro and Chicken. So, when I received an invitation to attend a sneak peek (and a taste) of some of the offerings of The Halal Guys, I immediately blocked it off on my calendar!
Now, Manila can have a taste of the very same menu that made The Halal Guys famous worldwide. From rice platters of chicken, gyro and combos to sandwiches to falafels and their iconic white sauce and hot sauce.
I’m sure Filipino fans will immediately make a beeline once the store officially opens on October 13.
Mouthwatering food at The Halal Guys
For now, let me show you what I had during the sneak peek of The Halal Guys – Gyro Over Rice (Small Solo: Php269 / Regular Solo: Php369 / New York Size Solo: Php469).
Each platter is served with rice, pita, lettuce and tomatoes.
How to eat it? Just mix it all together and request for more white sauce. Go ahead… Don’t hold back! The flavors are just fantastic! If you want it spicy, I dare you to try their extremely hot sauce! For someone who loves spicy food like me, I was quite intimidated. It was CRAZY hot! Just ask for a small amount of hot sauce or just do what I did and request that the sauce be served on the side.
I also tried their Falafel Sandwich (Solo: Php175 / New York Size: Php249)
Think Burrito without the rice, served with pita, lettuce and tomatoes. Again, smother it with that delicious white sauce! Really good stuff!
I am just so glad to be able to finally try some of the dishes of The Halal Guys. Their offerings are wonderfully conceptualized, plus they don’t overwhelm you with a ton of food selections on the menu. It’s great that way since I don’t have to rack my brains choosing what to get. Value for money? Definitely! Just look at their portions.
Oh by the way! Be one of the first 100 to line up on October 13 and get one free New York size chicken and gyro combo platter with a drink!
Save the date and set the alarm on your clocks (or smartphones)!End the craving! We just did!
Back in 1990 the 3 founding partners of The Halal Guys – Muhammed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka and Abdelbaset Elsayed actually first opened a hotdog cart. But due to the demand for quick and affordable Halal street food specifically from the Muslim cab drivers, their hotdog cart was converted into the city’s first Halal Street Food cart. And the rest is history.
