Being a blogger has taken me to many places, it has given me the opportunity to meet different kinds of people and make friends along the way.
The recently concluded AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015 held in Bangkok, Thailand is a great example. There, I was able to finally put faces to some of the (blog)names of sites that I’ve been following for quite some time now. Attendees of this festive event flew in from different Southeast Asian countries like China, Japan and India to name a few.
The AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015 is a gathering of all AirAsia Bloggers. The event was launched two years ago in Kuala Lumpur and hosted by AirAsia Malaysia. This year’s gathering, the second of its kind, was hosted by AirAsia Thailand.
AirAsia Philippines brought the Philippine entourage to Bangkok, Thailand via Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia since AirAsia doesn’t have a direct flight yet to Bangkok from Manila.
Going to the AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015, we were able to experience their service called, AirAsia Fly Thru Service.
The AirAsia Fly Thru Service allows you to book AirAsia flights from Manila to Thailand, other parts of Malaysia, Bali, Australia etc. and pay only for one ticket or promo fare. The trip takes you from Manila to Kuala Lumpur and then transfer to the next flight via KLIA2‘s transit hall without needing to pass through immigration.
As an added convenience, one needs only to collect his/her baggage at the final destination. In our case, I saw my luggage at Don Mueang Airport already. Cool, right? The whole process was an absolute breeze! So, if you plan to take advantage of this service, make sure you won’t be needing anything from your luggage mid-transit.
We had a 5-hour lay-over at Kuala Lumpur so we had time to kill at KLIA2. Good thing the spacious airport has free Wi-Fi, clean restrooms and ample seating areas that offer comfortable lounging.
If you want to grab something to eat, KLIA2 boasts of a nice food court with several restaurants to choose from. They have retail outlets, too, if shopping is your thing. I can only wish the time would come that our own airports here in the Philippines will all be like this very soon.
Anyway… On to Bangkok, we go, for the AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015!
Hello, Bangkok! We meet again!
During the duration of our stay, we were billeted at Eastin Grand Hotel in Sathorn.
We checked in and freshened up a bit before heading to the BLUE ELEPHANT Restaurant located just beside our hotel. This was where I had the “Blue Elephant Phad Thai” which is by far, in my opinion, the prettiest and most delicious pad thai I’ve ever tried! This resto deserves a separate feature on my blog!
After a really delicious dinner, we headed back to our hotel and called it a night!
So much fun at the AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015
The next day, the actual day of the AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015, we all gathered at the Saladaeng Room of our hotel to register. This was where the briefing took place and where we were to meet our respective teammates.
For this year’s AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015, the fun activity that was organized was a citywide Photo Hunt Rally. It’s kind of like “The Amazing Race”. Each team is given a map, cash and BTS train cards. Apart from that, every team must bring 1 selfie stick as well.
Teams will have to go around the city, take selfies at certain stops and post it on Instagram with the required respective hashtags. The first three teams to complete the tasks and arrive back at the Saladaeng Room, wins!
And off we go!
Since our team had a representative from Thailand, we asked him to lead our group. We all agreed to go against the flow and take a route that we figured other teams wouldn’t think of. Instead of just riding the BTS or Tuktuk, we rented a long tailed boat and traversed the Chao Phraya River!
Check out the pictures of my group that were posted by my teammate on Instagram.
We cruised the Chao Phraya River and saw little canals and temples that’s very Thai.
A taste of Somtum Papaya Salad, Gal Yang Grilled Chicken with Sticky Rice and Chao Kuai Glass Jelly at Old Bangkok.
Check out the Wat Arun Shrine or The Temple Of Dawn behind us! It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Thailand.
This part of Old Bangkok has a nice shopping area. From old magazines, books, tailoring, food and jewelry.
Finally found an AirAsia ad at the BTS Station after waiting for several minutes! And this was the final task which ultimately completed our hard work!
Even if we were the last team to arrive and didn’t win, we had so much fun! We may have come from different countries, we may talk in different languages, but we all have one thing in common – we know how to have a wonderful time.
The AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015 ended the fun day with awardings, lots of food, booze, great entertainment and more fun at the 33rd floor of the Eastin Grand Hotel.
To add more color and fun, each participant donned their national costumes. Hoping to win the “Best In National Costume Award”!
The Philippine contingent didn’t win but we definitely prepared for it!
My AirAsia Bloggers Conference 2015 experience was a 3-day filled with fun acquaintance, great bonding and tons of laughter. Truly one for the books!
Thank you AirAsia and AirAsia Philippines for bringing us all together! Thank you for allowing us to create wonderful memories. And to my teammates, see you all again next year. Hopefully.
