Who would have thought that 71 Gramercy serves delectable dishes apart from your typical alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) drinks?
Recently, my husband and I, together with some of our foodie friends were invited by Cecille Chang to try out some of Chef Carlo Miguel’s specialties at The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy.
Enjoy The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy
If you are familiar with how the lounge of 71 Gramercy looks like, you will be amazed to see how romantic and elegantly designed The Dining Room has been set-up.
The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy opens its doors at 6 in the evening and gives you an amazing view of the city skyline.
I was surprised to see the menu that Chef Carlo Miguel had prepared for us… It was a full course dinner – something you wouldn’t regularly see in a bar.
71 Gramercy serves up some really delicious hors d’oeuvres which I have gotten to like and became addicted to whenever I am at 71 Gramercy. Given that, I was quite confident that the dishes prepared for us that evening will be equally good. And with Chef Carlo being hands-on in the kitchen, I just knew that great dishes await at The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy.
Our dinner was served al fresco with a beautiful table setting and the spectacular sunset as our backdrop.
I won’t keep you waiting… Let’s kick things off with this Gruyère Soufflé (Php320.00).
Nothing is as comforting as having a thick and warm soup for dinner. This twice-baked Gruyère soufflé is like having a piece of heaven in a bowl. Seasoned beautifully, cheesy and rich.
Foie Gras Napoleon (Php720.00)
A generous slice of Foie Gras with caramelized apples, flakey puff pastry and aged balsamic makes for a great starter. Two elements that I enjoy in food: savory and sweet.
Cured Salmon (Php380.00)
This green tea-cured salmon with arugula, feta, ginger and shallots is refreshing and zesty. The entire dish is light on the belly… that means you won’t hate yourself after eating. Haha!
Tagliatelle Truffle (Php480.00)
Nowadays, it seems like adding truffle to any kind of dish will make it more enticing to eat. For some, it’s a love-hate relationship. But Chef Carlo made sure that there is no hate at all, but only love when it comes to this dish. It has crisp prosciutto, parmesan, 62 degree egg and truffle cream. Mix it all together to enjoy the creaminess and the richness of this dish. The truffle cream makes this dish all grown-up. Delicious!
Crab & Shrimp Risotto (Php460.00)
My husband and I are suckers for Risotto and, thankfully, this one in particular did not disappoint! Truffled white risotto with swimmer crab and shrimp. Perfect for seafood lovers!
Breakfast for Dinner (Php580.00)
Who said you can’t have breakfast food for dinner? This home cured and smoked Berkshire pork belly was a tad underseasoned for me when eaten alone. But when mixed with the 62 degree egg and tomato fondant, it more than makes up for the lack of seasoning thereof. It comes with potato hash too, which makes it a deliciously complete a meal fit for a mommah like me!
Roast Lamb (Php880.00)
This lamb dish is served two ways: boneless rack of lamb which has been trimmed and deboned, as well as shoulder for confit ribs accompanied with roasted pumpkin purée, crushed minted peas and rosemary-garlic jus. Not entirely photogenic but it is most definitely fork tender and bursting with flavors.
Chilean Sea Bass (Php1,180.00)
This pan-roasted sea bass had very subtle seasoning and a delectable crunch when tasted. It sits beautifully on crushed potatoes and eggplant relish for presentation and taste. Don’t forget to scoop some of the lemon oil to bring all the flavors together.
Australian Sher Label Wagyu 300 grams (2,480.00)
The photo may not fully show it, but the fine flecks of fat within the muscle was what got me all excited. And this is why I can’t be a hardcore vegetarian! Great color on the steak, juicy and full of flavor. Chef Carlo absolutely nailed the the meat’s doneness. The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy’s steaks are grain-fed and aged before being grilled over wood chips to seal in the juices.
Duck Breast (Php820.00)
Smoked organic honey glazed US duck breast was something quite new to my palate. Though I loved the combination of flavors from the onion and thyme purée, rhubarb and hazelnut, I guess the texture of the duck breast just didn’t work for me unlike with my other fellow food warriors.
#LEGIT Choco Cake (Php320.00)
Seeing the name of this cake with the cute hashtag made me chuckle a bit. In this day and age of social media, hashtags seem to be they way to go! But, hashtags aside, I agree that this rich specialty truly is legit. White and dark choco mousse, flourless chocolate cake, crisp choco tempered shell on top and warm milk chocolate ganache which falls off the center. Five textures, 3 kinds of chocolate. Wow!
Take a bite of the meringue, mango and passion fruit, slurp on the cream and just indulge! The soft, light and the sweet-tangy flavors blended perfectly. I just love Pavlova! This dessert by The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy is worth breaking your diet for!
To chug it all down, I had Mojito the entire night.
With all these mouthwatering dishes and inviting ambiance plus an unobstructed view of the cityscape, where else do you want to be?
The Dining Room at 71 Gramercy can and will always satisfy any craving that you have from booze, food to party!
