As soon as I set foot at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub, it reminded me of my high school and college days. My friends and I would go to music halls during the weekend. Listen to live bands, have a drink and be merry. During my time, live performances by different bands of different genres were once ubiquitous. You would normally see us hanging out where Side A, True Faith, Alamid, The Dawn and other similar bands play. It gave us a different kind of high listening and even belting out our favorite songs with these amazing bands! Those were the days…
With the rise and dominance of DJ driven clubs, live bands have quickly been replaced. But not at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub!
Located at the newly opened Century City Mall along Kalayaan Avenue in Makati, 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub is the perfect performance venue if you want to hear real musicians perform, hang-out or just to chill. Owned and run by several personalities from various industries, you are pretty much assured of quality music, good food and incredible booze.
On the night we visited 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub, Jet Pangan of The Dawn played 1 loooong set. I gotta say, Jet’s still got it! He owned the stage and belted out as if the 1980s was just yesterday! Wow!
Oh did I tell you that 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub serves really good food? And they have irresistible cocktail drinks to boot, too!
Check out some of my favorites below! These mouthwatering and well thought out dishes are your perfect buddies while having a grand time listening to the live musical acts of the night perform.
12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub specialties
PICA-PICA TO CHIKA
Killer Chicharones (Php195.00)
These killer crispy pork skin with chicken tail poppers and skin are the bomb! Dip it into the spicy vinegar that comes with it and voila! The appetizer to die for! If I wasn’t too conscious about my tummy that might show through my see-thru top that night, I would’ve asked for some garlic rice as well!
Spam Fries (Php290.00)
These sticks of spam coated with batter and deep fried is another winner! Your kind of appetizer while having several rounds of beer.
Fried Chicken Caesar Salad
Romaine lettuce with shaved parmesan cheese, smoked bacon bits and country fried chicken fillet tossed in homemade Caesar dressing.
Palabok Pizza (Php350.00)
I love Palabok and this pizza got me reeeeally excited! It has generous amounts of Palabok toppings: squid, shrimps, boiled egg, white goat cheese and Palabok sauce and served in a bilao to give it more authenticity. You might find this concoction weird but it’s really good! The chef nailed it!
Assistant Manager’s Choice (Php350.00)
A flavorful pizza with Italian sausage, ham, beef, green and red bell peppers, mozzarella and pomodoro sauce. In short, the works! The crust also has a nice crunch which makes it very easy for you to finish the entire thing.
Such a clever name, by the way. Because here in Manila (for people not aware), “Manager’s Choice” is a famous pizza flavor from a big pizza chain.
After Hours Goto Special (Php250.00)
Goto or congee is very popular in Manila because of its wonderful taste and the comfort it gives especially on a rainy day or when nursing a hang-over. It can be served in different ways. It’s very amusing that at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub, they serve this popular dish… deconstructed! It has beef tripe, garlic flakes, century egg, pork floss, homemade candied dilis, scallions, tofu and fried crispy pork belly. At least you get to choose what you want in your Goto. Nice concept!
Barbeque Feast (Php780.00)
A platter of chargrilled sweet and tangy baby back ribs, barbacua chicken wings with coleslaw, potato salad and java rice. A complete meal in one plate.
Midnight in Pares (Php290.00)
Another cleverly named dish! It’s made of braised beef topped with Tamago atop garlic rice and homemade chili oil. This is your glorified Pares!
Chunky Monkey Pie (Php290.00)
Cream-filled banana cream pie topped with whipped cream, chunky peanut butter and crushed choc-nut.
As for the drinks that I had that evening, I tried different types of cocktail drinks. I was too excited to try more than 1 because the drinks served at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub were just too pretty to pass up on! I actually ended up with a lingering hangover! No regrets, though! It was a very fun night! Something that I used to enjoy doing decades ago.
Strawberry Mojito (Php225.00), (L) Sweet Monkeys (Php250.00) and (R) Ivan’s Secret (Php250.00)
Starting it off with this pretty Strawberry Mojito (Php225.00).
I also tried this Amaretto Stone Sour (Php240.00) for the simple reason that I just want to have what the other girls were having! Surprisingly, I had more than 3 glasses of this delightful drink! I was as full as a boot!
12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub sure knows how to please their guests. Great grub, amazing performers and a spacious area. It definitely made my tummy happy and my ears satisfied. It’s my new favorite hangout place!
It also has a nice view of the Makati skyline from the smoking deck. Check it out when you visit the place!
