Oh boy La Paz Batchoy!

So, how can you tell where the best Batchoy in La Paz, Iloilo is? Just head on over to the market area and look around! When you see a multitude of people eating inside a particular establishment, thats it!

The place is called Deco’s.

Deco’s is just a small eatery situated on the outer part of the La Paz public market (facing the road). The small eatery can accommodate about 25 pax. When we arrived, there were only 2 tables occupied. But during the course of our merienda, several people came in. When we left, the place was almost packed.

Anyways, when it comes to soup, I want mine piping hot to appreciate it better. So when my Special La Paz Batchoy was served, I immediately took a quick photo of it for documentation then devoured it right away!

Wondering how good it was? It was absolutely spot on! The flavors were evenly distributed. The soup was delicious! The crushed pork rinds (chicharon) gave it a salty taste which the broth needed. The spring onions, garlic, liver and slices of pork gave it additional flavor and character. The miki noodles and vegetables were cooked properly. The egg balances everything out and brings it all together. It is the perfect companion on a rainy day or during times when you’re under the weather. Personally, it is my comfort food!

My husband had this – Extra La Paz Batchoy.

This is a bit bigger than mine and without the spring onions and toasted garlic because the hubby is not fond of it. You can also have it with or without egg.

Since I can’t get authentic La Paz Batchoy in Manila, everyone ordered 5 extra servings to bring home!

Bought styro boxes and big plastic containers at the nearby market to make sure the package won’t be confiscated at the airport.

Too bad I wasn’t able to take a photo of the entire place as we were rushing to finish our quick snack to get to the airport in good time.

But yes, when you are in Iloilo, drop by Deco’s to have a taste of their authentic La Paz Batchoy! It’s always great to enjoy a dish in the place where it originated from.

But wait… I’ve heard that inside La Paz Public Market there’s a great Batchoy-an, too! It’s called “Netong’s La Paz Batchoy”. I’ll be sure to try that out on my next Iloilo trip.
